A multitudinous Family Day brings the “Playing for refuge” project to a close
The facilities of the Amaya Sports City in Pamplona hosted the final Family Day of the European project “Playing for refuge” on 23 June. The event was attended by more than 150 people and was attended by the Vice-President and Regional Minister of Housing, Youth and Migration Policies of the Government of Navarre, Begoña Alfaro; the Director General for Migration Policies, Marisol De la Nava; the Deputy Director of Promotion of Sport and Physical Activity, Sandra Muñoz; the councillor of Burlada Town Council, Enaut Andueza; the manager of the Miguel Induráin Foundation, Ernesto Modrego; the presidents of the Royal Federation and the Navarre Baseball and Softball Federation, Jesús Lisarri and Pablo Carpio; the head of the Playing for Refuge project in the Navarre Federation, Adrián Laurencena; and the coordinator of CEAR Navarra, Idoia Oneca.
After the welcoming ceremony, the matches of the “Slowpitch Playing for refuge” championship were played, corresponding to the 5th and 6th places between Irabia and Toros, and the two semi-finals, which resulted in the teams Arga Frogs and Arga Ducks going through to the final after defeating Cardinales and Amaya.
After recovering their strength with a snack, the grand final of the championship was held, with Marisol De la Nava, Sandra Muñoz and Enaut Andueza taking the honours and Arga Frogs winning 15-4 after an entertaining game. The winner of the Home Run Derby was Renny Mendoza, from the Arga Ducks team.
The prize-giving ceremony and the raffle of materials put the finishing touch to this two-year European project whose main objective has been to promote the social inclusion of refugees and their integration into Navarrese society through sport.
